THE WORLD OF ART: THE BEST AND THE RUBBISH...

ART AND ARTISTS IN NEW YORK CITY                                                                                                          By Arnold Ronstand

absolutely magnificent paintings of Ms. Miller. And Ms. Miller was right. Her paintings go as high as $3,000. So, I went back to the newyorkartists.net. to check on the other artists. I clicked on their names, and this is what I found:

Photos from L to R: #1. Hariet Hunter's Iris, Giclee archival print: Radiant Velvet White paper. Limited Edition of 150, signed and numbered. Price:  $250.00. #2. Betsy Jaracuzo's MSummer Haze, giclee print, limited edition of 25. Price: $115. Both  original artworks under or around $2,000.

Gloria Rabinowitz Painting: MountainsPainting: Suspension/Cerebration XIIFrom L to R: #1. Gloria Rabinowitz's giclee, fine arts prints. Printed on 100% rag, acid free, Velvet Fine Art Paper with Ultrachrome inks, Price: $150.

Unfortunately, the superb work  of others artists like Debra Ramsey and Caren Raphael did not have a price list. Ramsey, Raphael and Bealor paintings are sold for or around $2,000. With an aggressive agent and well packaged PR promotional "campaign" the art of Ramsey can easily fetch $10,000. The work of  Judith S. miller, twice as much. Still, the gallery owner gets half of it. And that is the name of the game!

New York Artist Deb Ramsay: Past in the Present

FAVORITES OF THE MONTH. ALSO THE BEST AND THE RUBBISH!

My favorite artists of the month are: 1. Amy Banker who's compositions are superbly elegant and enriched with substance and esthetic depth. Ms Banker wrote: "I cannot help but be influenced by philosophy, poetry, literature, psychological symbolism, fairy tales, music, myths, conceits, and metaphors, especially of strong feminist models — women's conflicting roles in a changing time throughout the centuries.2. Lisa Jacqueline. 3. Donald Godard.

Photos from L to R: #1. Don Giovanni. Acrylic, Wood, 8" x 21", $ 5,000. #2. La Boheme B. Acrylic on Wood, 12" x 21", $ 5,000. , by Amy Banker.

Photos from L to R: #1. Medici, Oil on Canvas, 40" x 30", $ 2,200, by Lisa Jacqueline. #2. Untitled, 1958. Charcoal, graphite pencil, and casein on newsprint, 12 1/2" x 12", by Donald Godard.

The worse paintings of the month belong to Andrea Belag and Alex Yudson, both  at the Cheryl Pelavin gallery. They are absolutely rubbish. Yet, they priced around $2,800. This should tell you a lot about the taste and "fine" knowledge of some of New York's art galleries owners.

Photos from L to R: #1 Andrea Belag's Untitled, 2003, 29 x 24 inches, monotype, $2,800. #2.Alex Yudzon, Snake, 2004, 10 x 8 inches, Oil on Canvas.

The one painting I found to be stimulating is Daniel Iliescu's untitled canvas, shown at left. This artist knows how to project an idea and free an intimate feeling without overwhelming or overpowering the esthetic structure.
