THE BEST CIGARS AND TOBACCO SHOP IN NEW YORK

Have you ever wondered whether good service on the top of a good product would make a big difference in your shopping and willingness to go an extra mile to find the shop or boutique that offers you service and quality, even, if it is a little bit far from where you live? Of course you did. So, let's talk about that exemplary shop; the best in product and the best in service. The name is CIGARILLOS, a wonderful cigars, international cigarettes, exotic pipes and smoking accessories, located on 191 Spring Street, Soho in New York City. The owner, Mr. Nabil made the whole difference. We have never met a boutique owner who is more polite, generous, sweet and refined than Mr. Nabil! This man symbolizes finesse, refined manners and warm hospitality. We were so touched by his mannerism, kindness and superb service, we had to bring his name and CIGARILLOS to the attention of our readers. CIGARILLOS is first class. Rating: 5 stars out of 5 stars! Pay him a visit. You will love this man! Tel: 212-334-2250. Fax: 212-334-2253.

THE RUBIN MUSEUM OF ART: ONE OF THE BEST IDEAS AND PLACES IN NEW YORK CITY. A NATIONAL TREASURE!!

What a great idea and what a great place! The museum's mission Statement: "The Rubin Museum of Art (RMA) is a cultural and educational institution dedicated to the art of the Himalayas. Its mission is to establish, present, preserve and document a permanent collection that reflects the vitality, complexity and historical significance of Himalayan art and to create exhibitions and programs designed to explore connections with other world cultures. RMA is committed to addressing a diverse audience - from connoisseurs and scholars to the general public and young children. Through its collection, library, exhibitions and educational programs, RMA will become an international center for the preservation, study and enjoyment of Himalayan art." This is a superb endeavor which enriches the plateau and the world of art, culture and civilization in New York City. We ask the Office of the Mayor of New York to list RMM  on the landmarks map and charter of the city.

The literature of the museum  defines The Rubin Museum of Art (RMA) as the home to a comprehensive collection of art from the Himalayas and surrounding regions. The artistic heritage of this vast and culturally varied area of the world remains relatively obscure. Through changing exhibitions and an array of engaging public programs, RMA offers opportunities to explore the artistic legacy of the Himalayan region and to appreciate its place in the context of world cultures. The RMA collection consists of paintings, sculptures, and textiles. Although works of art range in date over two millennia, most reflect major periods and schools of Himalayan art from the 12th century onward. The exhibitions are organized with particular care to assist viewers who are new to Himalayan art. Wall texts and interpretive panels supply aesthetic, social, and historical perspectives to both scholars and casual viewers. The Explore Art Galleries on the 3rd and 5th floors (with a video alcove on the 6th floor) take the viewer behind the scenes, answering questions about why and for whom the art was made. Books, paintings, photographs, artifacts, and computer terminals accessing the Museum's website and affiliated sites offer other examples of Himalayan and related art. For more information, please contact the museum at:212-620-5000. info@rmanyc.org

PATRICIA BARBER AT JOE'S PUB

What the critics wrote about this sensational artist. "This is what Patricia Barber has: adventurous piano playing, a low-vibrato alto on perpetual rhythm and timbre alert and smart songs about the way we think and live, not just the way we love… This is the kind of art we need to be on the lookout for everywhere. The 21st century has started. We can't afford to be left behind." -NEW YORK TIMES. "Cross Diana Krall with Susan Sontag, and you get Patricia Barber, whose throaty, come-hither vocals and coolly incisive piano are displayed to devastating effect." -TIME MAGAZINE. "The coolest singer/songwriter around." -LOS ANGELES TIMES. Ms. Barber will be performing next week at JOE'S PUB. Don't miss these performances. You will have the best time of your life.

THE YANKS NEWSMAKERS

Laura Savini, Susan Barth, Gail Swanson, Ilil Arbel.

Laura Savini, vice president of marketing and communications for WLIW21 Public Television, in New York City.

Laura Savini, vice president of New York Public Television is making big buzzy buzz. Two glowing articles about Ms Savini appeared this week on the pages of the Parisian Magazine "La Femme" and The International News Agency. Savini is a darling of a corporate kind. She raises funds and gets donations for her TV network. She is pretty good at it. And oh yes, she is gorgeous and bright. Savini loves to give a hand to ethnic communities and local talents. The American-Italian entourage loves Savini. Why not? Italian food, Italian chefs, Italian diplomats feature regularly on her show. But she welcomes also all sorts of meaningful art and social accomplishments. Savini, a.k.a "Diva of the American Public Television" is taking New York city by storm. It helps to be pretty and savvy. And Ms Savini is blessed with both "BB", meaning Beauty and Brains. Her contributions to public television are enormous. You will like Savini's big smile, beautiful eyes and the way she asks for financial contributions. It is fun to watch her. Get hooked and enjoy Savini at New York Public Television. It is a real treat. Savini has been asked to serve as the grand marshal of the 24th annual Bronx Columbus Day Parade.  And she accepted the invitation. "I was so honored when they called. It was such a surprise and one of the three things in life I’ve wanted to do...I was just thrilled and I hope my 70 year old dad Anthony will join me...I’m so proud of my Italian heritage and I think I’ve been able to help with what I think promotes a more positive image of Italian-Americans. To be grand marshal is a huge honor," Savini said. It would lovely and fun to see Savini here on the British tube.

ALBUM COVERCover of Susan Barth's new CD "Wonderland". A terrific, sweet explosive album. First class.

Another great find this week, is the Californian pop singer and songwriter Susan Barth who has just released her CD "Wonderland". Barth is quite an unusual singer. Despite her great talent, Barth is fighting all celebrity odds. "I was pretty disenchanted with the music industry here in LA," says Barth of the making of "Wonderland". "It's a very competitive place. There are tens of thousands of songwriters here, and they're all trying to do the same thing. I wrote this song, 'Wonderland,' as a reflection of when I moved to LA - I was so full of hope and, you know, I thought I was moving to this wonderful place." But she will make it, soon or later. "Wonderland" is truly a wonderful album, rich with emotions, deep thoughts, nonchalant attitude, vocal beauty and life hype.

Susan Barth, an American bohemian chic super duper singer.

"I've been a good girl, a bad girl and a sad girl," Bath said  "You get to meet all of them -- sometimes all in one song." Barth's "Wonderland" is a meaningful musical and vocal accomplishment. Get a copy and enter the unconventional, half glitzy, half down to earth world of Susan Barth. Rating: 4 stars out of five. This is a bursting, warm and larger than life Album. Grab it.

FROM RMA EXHIBITIONS

Sacred History: Portraits and Stories

The art of the Himalayas is based on sacred traditions of the Buddhist, Bon, and Hindu religions. Made manifest as idealized portraits created throughout the Himalayas and central Asia, the founders and followers of these religions are depicted in iconic poses with meaningful gestures. The stories told by these portraits describe the earlier times, the relationships, and the teachings that make up that sacred history.

SHE IS NOT IN NEW YORK, BUT THEY ARE ASKING FOR HER!!
Alison England, the Grande Dame of world opera does not live in New York City. But fans in NYC are asking for her. They want to hear her and see her in person. Ms England currently lives in Paris and performs in Europe. She is a knockout. So different is she from the standard opera singers. She is bubbly, full of life, explosive, beautiful and blessed with a powerful operatic voice; a teasing, overwhelming and sensual voice which hypnotizes you.  She promised us to visit New York soon. Shall she keep her promise with her busy schedule? We shall see!? Should we call the Metropolitan Opera to roll the red carpet? Why not, she is one of the word's best!

Kiki Smith: Prints, Books, and Things (HC)

By Wendy Weitman

This new book is the most complete survey yet of Smith's printed art. Published to accompany an exhibition at The Museum of Modern Art in the winter of 2003-4, it documents her work in the medium, beginning with her first screenprint, made in 1980, and includes works that were in progress as this book was being written. Also featured is an eight-page printed work that Smith created especially for this book. An innovative experimenter, Smith has investigated many kinds of printmaking, from traditional techniques such as etching and lithography to newer, simpler processes such as rubber stamp and photocopy, not to mention artist's books and multiples including blankets and fabric dolls. Kiki Smith: Prints, Books, and Things offers a crucial record of an under acknowledged side of Smith's work. In doing so, it argues powerfully for the importance of printmaking in contemporary art. Includes 137 color plates, 16 color and 19 black and white illustrations.

More precisely, the romantic pre-war Eastern Europe with all its drama, mysteries and femmes fatales. The repertoire is rich, for it includes songs and ballades which embody and symbolize the true essence and spirit of early European cabaret. Lowin will be singing the songs of Edith Piaf and legends of the epoch. Lowin's cabaret show is not to be missed. Lowin sings in German, French, Russian and English as a native. This is a superb chanteuse at many levels. A world class star.
